SPECIAL NOTE FOR BRANCHES & STATES: Appendix A consists of Article XI. States and Article XII. Branches from the 2007–09 AAUW Bylaws. This provision ensures the group tax exemption for states and branches by including them in the AAUW Action Fund Bylaws until the IRS determination is received, which will move the states and branches under the restructured AAUW. At that time, this provision and appendix will be removed from the AAUW Action Fund Bylaws.

  •  PLANNING AHEAD

  • RECOMMENDED: The acclaimed documentary, A POWERFUL NOISE, takes you inside the lives of three women – a girls' education crusader from Mali, an HIV-positive widow from Vietnam, and a peacemaking survivor of the war in Bosnia – who each overcome seemingly insurmountable odds to bring lasting solutions to their communities.
[STATE AAUW WILL BE PURCHASING A COPY FOR OUR STATE PUBLIC POLICY CHAIR]

  • AAUW National Individual Membership dues for fiscal year 2010 are $49; $46 is tax deductible, and $3 is not tax deductible (because it supports the AAUW Action Fund's Section 501(c)(4) Lobby Corps and get-out-the-vote activities). Branch members should pay their $49 national dues plus their branch and state dues through their branch as usual. Individual members (members-at-large) should pay their full national dues ($49) to AAUW as usual. [as of April 1, 2009]

  • AAUW National Student Affiliate fee for fiscal year 2010 is $17; $16 is tax deductible, and $1 is not tax deductible (because it supports the AAUW Action Fund's Section 501(c)(4) Lobby Corps and get-out-the-vote activities).

  • AAUW National Life Membership dues (one-time payment) of $980 are fully tax deductible. Tax deductibility details for special AAUW membership promotions are specified in the promotion information.

  • New C/U Initiative October, 2008:
Undergraduate students of each College/University member of AAUW can now belong to AAUW! for FREE! and upon graduation, 1-year free membership via "Give a Grad a Gift" Program. Also, check out the Campus Action Project initiative — AAUW awards grants of up to $5,000 to campus teams made up of students and faculty or administrators to implement projects on campus addressing a range of issues to promote equity.

AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research.
AAUW [Association combined with former Educational Foundation] will be a unified 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Membership dues will be considered membership donations. Of the $49 dues for 2009–10, $46 will be tax deductible [effective July 1, 2009].

The AAUW Action Fund is a non-profit 501(c)(4) entity, encompassing the Lobby Corps, voter education, including the Congressional Voting Record, and politically-related activities. Lobbying-support donations will continue to be 501(c)(4) and not tax deductible [effective July 1, 2009].
AAUW's Legal Advocacy Fund provides funding and a support system for women seeking judicial redress for sex discrimination in higher education. LAF, established in 1981, is the largest legal fund focused solely on this objective. Note: after 2009 and current funding support, LAF is changing to an amicus curiae and other non-financial support and is expanding from just the campus to workplace discrimination as well.
Vision: AAUW will be a powerful advocate and visible leader in equity and education through research, philanthropy, and measurable change in critical areas impacting the lives of women and girls.
Value Promise: By joining AAUW, we belong to a community that breaks through educational and economic barriers so that all women have a fair chance.
