PAY EQUITY: The national average is now 77 cents on the dollar. Just to make it interesting, Hoosier women are almost at the bottom of the pay equity scale, at 72 cents on the dollar (2010 Census), and guess what, that’s down 1 cent from 2009. That one cent has moved Indiana from a 44th to 47th standing.

    NGCP National Collaboration Conference 2012: Advancing the Field through Collaboration, Capacity Building, and Equity will be held in conjunction with the nation's largest celebration of science and engineering. The 2012 USA Science and Engineering Festival will feature over 3,000 interactive exhibits, stage shows, and presentations. NGCP will be hosting "Girl Zone", a reserved area of the festival for fun hands-on activities, interactive demonstrations, and female role models led by NGCP partners and programs. The festival will take place on April 28-29, 2012 at the Walter E. Washington Convention center in Washington, D.C., immediately following the NGCP Collaboration Conference.

    Financial Protection Bureau Opens Office for Women and Minorities The newly opened Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) established its Office of Minority and Women Inclusion (OMWI) . OMWI will develop standards for equal employment opportunity, workforce diversity, and inclusion at all levels of the CFPB; increased participation of minority- and women-owned businesses; and assessment of diversity policies and practices of the CFPB’s regulated entities.     AAUW is a unified 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Membership dues are membership donations. Of the $49 dues for 2010-2011, $46 will be tax deductible.

    The
    AAUW Action Fund is a non-profit 501(c)(4) entity, encompassing the Lobby Corps, voter education, including the Congressional Voting Record, and politically-related activities. Lobbying-support donations will continue to be 501(c)(4) and not tax deductible.
    Vision: AAUW will be a powerful advocate and visible leader in equity and education through research, philanthropy, and measurable change in critical areas impacting the lives of women and girls.
    Value Promise: By joining AAUW, we belong to a community that breaks through educational and economic barriers so that all women have a fair chance.
    Education as the path to equity is and will remain AAUW’s core value and activity.

    AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. Since 1881, AAUW has been one of the nation’s leading voices promoting education and equity for women and girls. It has a nationwide network of nearly 100,000 members, 1,300 branches, and 500 college/university institutional partners. Since its founding, members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day—educational, social, economic, and political. AAUW’s commitment to educational equity is reflected in its public policy advocacy, community programs, leadership development, conventions and conferences, national partnerships, and international connections.

    Indiana AAUW has around 800 members. In addition to National dues, State members pay $7 to the State and Branch dues [vary from branch to branch; see individual branch pages for information]. National Members-at-Large can join as a State MAL for an additional $7 paid directly to the State Finance Director. State MALs are often in areas where there is no [or no longer] a branch. It is always possible to start a new branch!
