Black art from its ancient roots in Africa through the Caribbean to Antebellum America and the
Harlem Renaissance. Its emphasis is on the philosophical, cultural, and stylistic tenets,

thought and its impact on the visual arts of the twentieth century. Covers the period from
the Negro Renaissance of the twenties through the Black arts movement of the mid-sixties,
