SYCAMORES FALL TO
MISSOURI STATE, 6-1
Box Score
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State fell behind
early and could not get anything going offensively as Missouri State
cruised to a 6-1 victory on Friday night at Sycamore Field. It is
the 11th straight MVC loss for the Sycamores who fall to 20-33 on
the season and 5-18 in conference action, while MSU picks up its
sixth straight league win to improve to 29-20 overall and moves
into second place with a 14-8 record in The Valley.
The Sycamores jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Tim Brewer led off the game with a walk and Jake Eigsti followed
with a single to put runners on first and third. Ryan Bond then
doubled to leftfield to score the run, but Eigsti was thrown out
at the plate and MSU escaped without further damage.
Missouri State responded with four runs in the top of the second
off of ISU's Ryan Tatusko (4-7) using two walks and four hits to
take a 4-1 lead. The Bears would score two more in the fourth off
of Andrew Galle to push the lead to 6-1.
Ross Detwiler (6-4) and Jacob Bunten took care of the rest as the
Bears allowed only one more hit after the first inning. The Sycamores
would threaten once more in the fifth as they loaded the bases,
but could not come up with the big hit. Detwiler finished with 10
strikeouts in seven innings, while Bunten threw two perfect frames
to seal the victory.
Adam Pabst was impressive for the Sycamores in relief as he threw
four shutout innings to finish the game allowing only two hits and
striking out a career-high four batters.
The Sycamores were held to three hits and committed three errors,
while the Bears recorded 10 hits and made one error.
ISU will finish the season with its final game against Missouri
State on Saturday at 1 pm and will honor eight seniors in their
final home game.
