SYCAMORES FINISH SEASON
WITH 5-3 LOSS TO MISSOURI STATE

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State ended
the 2006 season with a 5-3 loss to Missouri State on Saturday afternoon
at Sycamore Field. The Sycamores finished the year with a 20-34
record and a 5-19 record in the MVC. The Bears ended the regular
season with a 30-20 overall record and placed second in the conference
with a 15-8 mark.
The Sycamores held a 3-0 lead through five innings of action, but
the Bears fought back with two runs in the sixth and tied the game
with a run in the seventh. The game was decided in the top of the
ninth when the Bears put together three hits to score two runs to
earn the win.
Chad Dawson earned the start for ISU and went 6.0 strong innings,
as he gave up only two runs on seven hits. The Sycamores took a
1-0 lead in the first inning as Ryan Bond used a two-out RBI single
to score Jake Eigsti. ISU pushed the lead to 3-0 off of Jake Shafer
with two runs in the third, when Bond's double scored Eigsti and
Nevin Ashley who opened the frame with singles.
Adam Lindsay entered the game in the seventh and Matt Lawson greeted
him with a double that went off of Lindsay's shin into leftfield.
Lawson then moved up on a groundball and scored on a wildpitch to
tie the game at 3-3.
Shafer (3-4) settled down and shut down the Sycamores as he gave
up only two hits and didn't allow a run over his final five innings
and he earned the victory when the Bears used three singles in the
ninth off of Brian Omogrosso (3-2) to clinch the victory.
The game ends the career of eight Sycamore seniors, including four-year
letterwinners Jake Eigsti and Jason Murray, along with Tim Brewer,
Cory Kral, Andrew Galle, Adam Tyler, Adam Pabst and Dan Caudle.
