SYCAMORES SUFFER SWEEP
AFTER 7-3 LOSS TO WICHITA STATE

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State fell behind
early and its late rally fell short as Wichita State earned a 7-3
victory on Sunday at Sycamore Field to sweep the weekend series.
The Sycamores fall to 19-24 on the year and 5-10 in Missouri State
Conference action, while No. 23 Wichita State improves to 34-16
on the year and a league-best 12-6 in the MVC.
The Shockers jumped out to an early 5-0 lead as they scored two
runs in the first and three runs in the third all with two out.
ISU got on the board in the bottom of the third as Ryan Bond singled
to start the frame and eventually scored on a wild pitch to cut
the lead to 5-1.
WSU pushed the lead to 7-1 with single runs in the seventh and
the ninth. The Sycamores tried to rally in the ninth as they used
two hits and an error to cut the lead to 7-3 and had two runners
on base but could not finish the comeback attempt.
Andrew Galle (5-3) started for Indiana State and gave up five runs
on seven hits in three innings of action. Adam Lindsay threw 5.0
strong innings in relief giving up one earned run on five hits,
while striking out three. Rob Musgrave (5-2) earned the win going
7.2 innings and one run on four hits.
Seven different Sycamores came up with one hit as Wichita State
owned a 12-7 advantage on base hits. Ryan Bond finished the game
with a hit, run and an RBI to lead the Sycamore attack. Conor Gillaspie
and Derek Schermerhorn both posted three hits and three RBI for
the Shockers.
Indiana State will not play any midweek games this week as the
student-athletes take final exams. The Sycamores will next be in
action this Friday as they travel to Southern Illinois with the
first game scheduled for Friday afternoon at 3 pm (CT).
