FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ASHLEY NAMED FIRST-TEAM
ALL-MIDWEST REGION
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State’s
Nevin Ashley continued to pile up the accolades as he was named
First Team All-Midwest Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Ashley is the first Sycamore to earn all-region honors since 2000.
Ashley was one of only two members of the Missouri Valley Conference
to be named to the first team, along with MVC Player of the Year
Damon Sublett of Wichita State. The first team all-region squad
consists of 14 players from schools in the MVC, the Big 12, Mountain
West, and the Mid-Continent.
Ashley had an outstanding junior campaign for the Sycamores as
he finished the season ranking in the top 10 of eight different
offensive categories among the conference elite. He led the Sycamores
with a .382 batting average, 10 home runs and 42 runs batted in,
and led the league with seven triples and a .653 slugging percentage.
He also registered an MVC season-high 22-game hitting streak at
the beginning of the year and was named the MVC Player of the Week
on March 20.
In addition, he has earned First Team All-MVC honors and ESPN The
Magazine Academic All-Region plaudits for his efforts. Ashley is
the first Sycamore to earn ABCA All-Region honors and academic all-region
honors in the same season.
Ashley was recently taken in the Major League Baseball draft by
the Tampa Bay Devil Rays with the third pick in the sixth round
(169th overall) and began his professional career last week with
the Princeton Devil Rays of the Appalachian League.
