ASHLEY, EIGSTI EARN FIRST TEAM ALL-MVC SCHOLAR ATHLETE HONORS

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State junior Nevin Ashley and senior Jake Eigsti earned First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference Scholar Athlete honors for their efforts on the baseball field and in the classroom. The duo marks the first time ISU has landed multiple first team selections since the Sycamores led the MVC with four first team picks in 2002.

Ashley owns a 3.34 GPA in management and also earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors earlier this year. He was a First-Team All-MVC pick for his performance on the field after ranking in the top 10 of eight MVC offensive categories during his junior campaign. Ashley led the Sycamores with a .382 batting average, 10 home runs and 42 runs batted in, and led the league with seven triples and a .653 slugging percentage.

Eigsti earned all-scholar athlete recognition for the third time in his career, but it is the first time he has been a first team selection. The senior recorded a 3.55 GPA in construction management and was a Second Team All-MVC selection. The shortstop started all 54 games for ISU and posted six home runs and 34 RBI and a team-high 42 runs. During his four years with the Sycamores, Eigsti played in 195 games, tallied a .302 career batting average and posted over 200 hits while scoring and driving in over 100 runs each.

The selections are made in a vote by the league’s sports information directors. The nominees must be starters or important reserves, with at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution.

The honors for Ashley and Eigsti give Indiana State 99 All-MVC Scholar Athletes under the tutelage of head coach Bob Warn since the award began in 1979.
