ASHLEY NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL-MVC

ST. LOUIS – Indiana State junior Nevin Ashley was named First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference on Monday in a vote by league coaches. Ashley becomes the first Sycamore since 2001 to garner first team recognition. Senior Jake Eigsti and junior Brian Omogrosso were also recognized as they earned Second Team All-MVC plaudits.

Ashley finished the season ranking in the top 10 of eight different offensive categories among the conference elite. The catcher led the MVC with seven triples and 130 total bases and finished second in the league with a .382 batting average and 10 home runs. He also registered an MVC season-high 22-game hitting streak at the beginning of the year and was named the MVC Player of the Week on March 20.

It is the first time Ashley has earned All-MVC honors in his three seasons with the Sycamores and he becomes the first catcher at ISU to earn all conference honors since 1997.

Eigsti finishes his stellar four-year career at ISU by earning his first All-MVC award at shortstop. Eigsti recorded a .300 batting average with 10 doubles, six home runs and 34 RBI on the year. He also finished second among MVC shortstops with a .955 fielding percentage in conference action.

It is the second time Omogrosso has earned Second Team All-MVC honors, after also earning the award in 2004, his last season of action. Omogrosso led the Sycamores this season with a 1.51 ERA and four saves. He also posted 37 strikeouts in 41.2 innings of action as the ISU stopper.

Wichita State’s Damon Sublett received the 2006 Joe Carter Award given to the Valley Player of the Year, while WSU’s Aaron Shafer earned the Pitcher of the Year honor.
