JAKE EIGSTI SELECTED BY NEW YORK METS IN MLB DRAFT

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State senior shortstop Jake Eigsti was drafted by the New York Mets in the 29th round of the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft on Wednesday (June 7). Eigsti, who was the 874th overall pick, becomes the third Sycamore selected in the 2006 MLB draft, which marks the first time since 1993 that at least three ISU players were taken.

Eigsti was a four-year starter for the Sycamores, finishing his career with 195 games played in an ISU uniform, including a start at shortstop in every game over the past two seasons. In 2006, he earned Second Team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors after posting a .300 batting average with six home runs, 34 RBI and a team-best 42 runs scored. He was also a three-time selection to the All-MVC Scholar Athlete team after posting a 3.55 GPA in construction management. Overall, Eigsti tallied a career .302 batting average and recorded over 200 hits, while scoring and driving in over 100 runs each.

Joining Eigsti in the draft from Indiana State were juniors Nevin Ashley and Brian Omogrosso, who were both taken in the sixth round on Tuesday.
