SYCAMORES TABBED TO FINISH NINTH IN VALLEY

ST. LOUIS - Indiana State baseball, led by first-year skipper Lindsay Meggs, has been picked to finish ninth in the Missouri Valley Conference this coming spring. Meggs takes the reigns of the program following the retirement of Bob Warn after the 2006 campaign.

Indiana State has been chosen to finish ninth in the MVC Preseason Poll. Evansville, took four first place votes and has been tabbed as the league’s preseason favorite. Wichita State is right behind the Purple Aces, finishing second in the annual preseason poll of league head coaches.

Meggs, comes to ISU after spending the past 13 seasons as head coach at California State-Chico where he guided the Wildcats to two NCAA Division II National Championships. A two-time NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year, he has been named regional coach of the year seven times and has captured conference coach of the year honors on seven occasions.

Although Indiana State had no individual preseason honors, Ryan Bond will look to be a leader on the field for Indiana State while Ryan Tatusko will do the same on the mound. Last season Bond, hit .251 for the season with 15 extra base hits and 34 RBI. The speedy Bond stole 12 bases during the campaign.

Tatusko went 4-7 on the season with an ERA of 4.84. He struck out 50 batters in just over 82 innings of work. He paced the team with 14 starts in 2006.

The Sycamores open the 2007 campaign at Georgia State for a four-game set beginning on February 23. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. (ET).
