INDIANA STATE FALLS TO CALIFORNIA IN FINAL DAY OF LOUISVILLE CLASSIC

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Indiana State dropped its third and final game of this weekend’s Louisville Cardinal Baseball Classic with a 4-1 decision against California. ISU falls to 5-5 on the year while the Golden Bears improved to 9-11.

Chris Schmidt plated the Sycamores lone run of the day in the top of the fourth inning. He drove in Dave Brumagin with a two-out single up the middle which made the score 2-1.

California answered that run in the bottom of the frame and tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth for the 4-1 victory.

Brian Gass started the game for Indiana State, pitching three and two thirds innings, allowing five hits and three runs. Adam Lindsay worked four innings of two hit ball with a pair of strikeouts while Josh Varno recorded the final out against the Golden Bears.

Gass fell to 0-1 on the year with the decision.

Each of the Sycamores first four batters (Ryan Bond, Brumagin, Josh Abercrombie and Schmidt) went 1-for-4 at the plate on the day. Sean Osborne recorded a pair of hits in three at-bats.
