SYCAMORES USE STRONG EFFORT FROM RYAN TATUSKO TO DOWN MURRAY STATE, 5-1

MURRAY, Ky. – Indiana State used a tremendous starting effort from junior right-hander Ryan Tatusko to down Murray State, 5-1, in the first game of today’s (March 17) doubleheader at Johnny Reagan Field. The victory stopped a five-game losing skid for the Sycamores as they improve to 6-7 on the season, while the ‘Breds fall to 3-12.

Tatusko carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the sixth inning, before he allowed a single to Murray State’s Seth Hudson. In the season’s second game against Georgia State, Tatusko pitched seven innings of no-hit baseball in a 4-1 victory.

This time he went eight and a third innings, allowing four hits and just one run. He struck out eight, and faced just 31 batters in improving to 3-1 on the season.

Senior Adam Lindsay came into the game with one out in the bottom of the ninth, and worked his way out of a jam to post the final two outs of the game for his third save of the season.

ISU jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Ryan Strausborger reached on an infield single to lead off the game and advanced to second on a stolen base. After moving over to third on a ground-out, Marcus Artner drove him in for the early advantage with a single to left center.

ISU broke the game open in the top of the seventh inning, when Nick Coilli led off the frame with an infield bunt hit, and moved to third via a single by Dave Brumagin. Ryan Bond reached on a fielder’s choice to plate Coilli for the 2-0 advantage. With Bond in scoring position, he scored on an infield hit by Strausborger. Strausborger made it 4-0 on an RBI single by Abercrombie.

The Sycamores were able to tack on one more insurance run in the eighth when Coilli posted the second Indiana State triple of the season, and scored on an infield bunt single by Brumagin for the 5-0 lead.

The ‘Breds put up a fight in the bottom of the ninth, scoring on a one-out RBI single and loading the bases which put the tying run in the on-deck circle. Lindsay picked up the last two outs of the game for the save.

Indiana State had four players enjoyed a multi-hit game. Strausborger was 2-for-5 with a pair of runs and an RBI. Marcus Artner posted a 2-for-4 day with an RBI while Brumagin was 2-of-3 with an RBI. Coilli enjoyed a 2-for-4 game with a pair of runs scored.
