MISSOURI VALLEY NAMES ALL-CONFERENCE/ALL CENTURY SELECTIONS
ST. LOUIS
– The Missouri Valley Conference released
its annual all-league baseball teams today (May 21) and a pair
of Sycamores appear on the list as voted upon by the nine
conference head coaches.
Juniors DH Chris
Schmidt and OF Dave Brumagin have been tabbed as All-MVC second
team selections. The honor is the first for Brumagin while Schmidt
was a second team selection at designated hitter as a freshman in
2005 as well.
Schmidt finished the
year by hitting a team-leading .368 with 75 hits, including 15 for
extra bases. Schmidt posted 10 doubles, a pair of triples and
three home runs while driving in 30 runs. He was successful on
13-of-15 stolen base attempts during the year. His .368 batting
average finished as fifth-best in the MVC.
Brumagin was second
on the team with a .339 batting average as he compiled 65 hits,
including 14 for extra bases. He posted 10 doubles, a triple and
three home runs while driving in 32 runs. Brumagin put together a
sparkling .980 fielding percentage for the season, with just three
errors in 148 chances in centerfield and third base. His .339
batting average finished ranked as 17th-best in the league.
Indiana State
finished the year with a 26-26 record under first year head coach
Lindsay Meggs. The Sycamores set school records for hit batsmen as
well as sacrifice bunts during Meggs’ initial campaign.
ALL CENTURY MVC TEAM NAMED:
In 2006-07, the
Missouri Valley Conference celebrates a century of excellence as
the nation’s second-oldest NCAA Division I conference begins its
second centennial as a leader in college athletics. As a part of
the Centennial Celebration, The Valley is naming all-centennial
teams for each of the Valley’s sponsored sports, including
baseball.
The list of the top
players and all-time greatest coach was determined through online
fan voting (www.mvc100.org), with input from a centennial
committee. More than 500 votes were cast for baseball while all
nine of the current league institutions have at least two
representatives on the team.
The following are
the Indiana State representatives on the MVC All-Century Team:
2B Wallace Johnson, Indiana
State
- first team All-MVC (1979);
led the league in batting average and stolen bases same year
2B Mitch Hannahs, Indiana
State
- 2-time first team All-MVC
(1987 & 1989); all-tournament selection (1987 & 1989); 3-time
first team All-MVC (1987 & 1989/second base - 1988/UT)
DH Tony Collins, Indiana
State
- 2 time first team All-MVC
(1984 & 1985)
RP Craig Kozlowski,
Indiana State
- 30 pitching
appearances ranks seventh in MVC history; 12 saves in a season,
ranks sixth in MVC; 89 appearances in career; 25 career saves
ranks fifth in MVC history.
