SYCAMORE BASEBALL DUO EARNS ALL-MVC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE HONORS

ST. LOUIS – A pair of Indiana State Sycamore baseball student-athletes have earned All-Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete accolades as announced by the league office earlier today (June 4). The scholar-athlete squads were voted upon by each of the conference’s nine sports information directors.

Earning first team plaudits is junior Chris Schmidt (Jasper, Ind./High). Schmidt holds a stellar 3.93 GPA in Computer Technology. Soon after the regular season, Schmidt earned All-MVC Second Team honors. He finished the year by hitting a team-leading .368 with 75 hits, including 15 for extra bases. Schmidt posted 10 doubles, a pair of triples and three home runs while driving in 30 runs. He was successful on 13-of-15 stolen base attempts during the year. His .368 batting average finished as fifth-best in the MVC.

Also listed was senior Ryan Bond (Pendleton, Ind./Heights), who was named to the honorable mention list. Bond holds a 3.09 GPA in Recreation and Sports Management. He tied a school-record with five singles at Miami (OH) this year, as part of a 5-for-7 effort the plate in which he drove in the two game-winning runs in the top of the 14th innings versus the RedHawks. He also tied another school record with two triples in a thrilling 12-7 victory at Purdue, which gave ISU a perfect 4-0 record against the Big Ten this season. He led the team in triples with three, doubles with 11 and 30 walks. He compiled 14 multi-hit games this season and posted 16 stolen bases.
