Ypsilanti, Mich.. – The
Indiana State men’s cross country team earned an 11th place
finish Saturday (Nov. 13) afternoon at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional
Cross Country Championships at the Eagle Crest Golf Course in
Ypsilanti, Mich.
The Sycamores compiled a total of 313 points in the 30-team field.
Wisconsin, with 47 points, and Notre Dame, with 82, finished one-two
respectively to clinch the two automatic berths in the NCAA Championships
on Nov. 22 at the Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
Junior Jordan Fife posted a time of 31:20.3 and finished 40th
in a field of 197 runners. Senior Aaron Harding finished second
for the Sycamores 31:24.3, followed by Sean Bowman (31:36.5),
Blaine Zimmerman (32:22.6) and Dustin Strosnider (32:27.8).
“Our guys ran very competitively today,” said head
coach John McNichols. “This was a huge improvement from
over a year ago.”
Nate Brannen, from Michigan, won the individual title with a
time of 30:10.9. Sean Jefferson, from Indiana (30:14.3) and Kurt
Benninger, Notre Dame (30:17.3) rounded out the top three.
The 2004 NCAA Cross Country Championships hosted by Indiana State
University will take place on Monday, Nov. 22 at 11 a.m. at the
Lavern Gibson Championship Course at the Wabash Valley Family
Sports Center.
