TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana
State men’s cross country team earned a 29th place finish
while the women placed 35th against elite fields in the Pre-National
Cross Country Meet hosted by the Sycamores at LaVern Gibson Championship
Course on Saturday.
The men’s team competed in the blue race and scored 777
points in a 37-team field that boasted 12 of the top 30 teams
in the country. Colorado won the race with 63 points and were
followed by Cal Poly-SLO with 165 points.
Aaron Harding posted a time of 25:18.0 to lead the Sycamores
and finish 108th in a field of 252 runners. Sean Bowman finished
second for ISU with 25:28.0. Jordan Fife (25:47.2), Blaine Zimmerman
(25:56.1) and David Sanbtelik (26:41.1) were the final three scorers
for ISU.
Matt Gonzales, from New Mexico, earned medalist honors with a
time of 23:47.2.
The ISU women participated in the white race and posted 868 points
in a 36-team field. Sophomore Laura Engle led the Sycamores as
she finished the 6K race with a time of 22:09.5 to place 96th
out of 244 racers.
Heather Stembridge was the second Sycamore across the line with
a time of 22:41.7 to place 152nd. Sarah Jarvis (23:16.3), Dani
Prince (23:28.1), and Maile Venable (23:40.5) rounded out the
top five for ISU.
Colorado won the white race with a total of 94 points, followed
by Michigan with 109. Arizona State, North Carolina State and
Michigan State completed the top five of the elite field that
is previewing the course for the NCAA Championships, which will
be held in Terre Haute on Nov. 22nd.
Colorado’s Renee Metevier won the individual title with
a time of 20:03.6
The Sycamores will take a week off before traveling to Carbondale,
Ill. for the MVC Championships on Oct. 30.
