SYCAMORES RELEASE 2006 SCHEDULE

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Three meets at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course highlight the Indiana State University men’s and women’s cross country schedule for 2006. ISU will serve as the host of the 2006 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Championships on November 20, marking the third consecutive year the championships have been held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
The Sycamores begin the season with the Sycamore Pride meet on August 26. The meet consists of current and former Sycamores competing in an intra-squad format. ISU’s first scored meet is September 8, when the Sycamores take part in the Bradley Invitational.
Indiana State will play host for the 2006 Indiana Intercollegiates on September 15. The meet consists of close to 30 teams from the state of Indiana. ISU’s men’s team is the defending champion, having won the event in Bloomington last year. The Sycamore men’s team also won the Intercollegiates in 1997 and 1998.
Following a two-week break, the Sycamores will take part in the Notre Dame Invitational on September 29. ISU’s Laura Engle took first place in the Women’s Gold Race last year in South Bend.
The 2006 Brooks Pre-Nationals will take place at the LaVern Gibson Course on October 14. The event features three men’s races and three women’s races. Many of the top-ranked teams from across the country will descend on Terre Haute that weekend in preparation for the championships in November.
Creighton University will host the 2006 Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championships on October 28. ISU’s men’s team captured the conference championship outright in 2005, placing four runners in the top ten. The Sycamores men’s team earned a share of the title in 2004. ISU’s women’s team placed fifth at the MVC Championships in 2005.
November 11 marks the date of the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, to be held in Bowling Green, Ohio. The top two finishers in both the men’s and women’s competition earn automatic berths to the NCAA Championships on November 20.
