ISU TO HOST 2007 CROSS
COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The National
Collegiate Athletic Association has announced that Indiana State
University will serve as host for the 2007 NCAA Division I Men’s
and Women’s Cross Country Championships. The event will be
held at the LaVern Gibson Championships Cross Country Course.
Terre Haute, Ind., has served as the center of
Division I collegiate cross country the past few years, as the Sycamores
hosted the national championships in 2002, 2004, and 2005. ISU will
host the 2006 championships on November 20.
“The awarding of this meet to Indiana Sate is a testament
to the pride that the people of ISU and Terre Haute take in this
event,” said head men’s cross country coach John McNichols.
“This championships, combined with the Pre-Nationals in October
has a tremendous financial impact on the area.”
Indiana State University has hosted the Great
Lakes Regional in 1998, 1999, 2001, and 2005. The Sycamores also
hosted the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in 2000 and
2002. The Sycamores will also host the 2006 Indiana Intercollegiates,
a meet which includes over 30 collegiate teams from the state of
Indiana. ISU hosted the Intercollegiates in 1997, 2000, and 2003.
Located on 240 acres of land, the Wabash Family
Sports Center includes the cross country course as well as softball,
soccer, and football fields. An indoor facility on the grounds houses
two full-size basketball courts, locker rooms, and a senior citizens
center. Recent construction has added a permanent concession stand,
a permanent parking lot, and a video board. The facility is located
east of the Hulman Regional Airport in eastern Vigo County.
The Sycamores open their season when they host
their Sycamore Pride meet on August 26
