SIX SYCAMORES EARN ALL-ACADEMIC HONORS

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Six Indiana State University cross country student-athletes earned Missouri Valley Conference All-Academic honors, as announced by the league office today (Nov. 8). Four members of the men’s team and two from the ISU women’s team earned the season-ending award.
   Sean Bowman (Nashville, Ind./Milligan College) earned academic all-conference honors for the first time in his career. Bowman carries a 3.95 in Exercise Science. He also earned all-conference honors after finishing fourth at the MVC Championships on October 29. Blaine Zimmerman (Cicero, Ind./Hamilton Heights HS) also earned all-academic honors for the first time. Zimmerman, a Radio/TV major, owns a 3.24 grade point average. He was named to the all-conference team after posting a fifth-place finish at the MVC Championships.
   Senior Jordan Fife (Seymour, Ind.) was named to the all-academic team for the third time in his career. Fife, who carries a 3.42 GPA in Social Studies Education, earned all-academic honors in 2003 and 2004. Fife finished second at the MVC Championships to earn back-to-back all-conference honors after finishing in the top ten in 2004. Fellow senior Jon Nay (Columbus, Ind./East HS) garnered all-academic honors this season. Nay boasts a 4.0 GPA in Pre-Med. He crossed the finish line at the MVC Championships in 16th place with a time of 25:12.
   Laura Engle (Terre Haute, Ind./South HS) earned academic all-conference honors for the second consecutive year. Engle carries a 4.00 GPA in Art and earned all-conference honors after finishing fifth at the MVC Championships. Junior Dani Prince (Bloomington, Ind./South HS) also was named to the all-academic team. Prince owns a 3.90 grade point average in Elementary Education.
   The MVC All-Academic team accounts for both academic and athletic excellence. Student-athletes must have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average and must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution to be eligible.
   The Sycamores return to action on Saturday (Nov. 12) when they take part in the Great Lakes Regional, hosted by Indiana University. The Sycamores will attempt to qualify for the NCAA Division I National Championship, held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course on November 21. The top two finishers at the regional meet will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships.
