SYCAMORES SET PERSONAL BESTS AT NOTRE DAME INVITE

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Indiana State men’s cross country placed 12th in the Blue Race of the Notre Dame Invitational this afternoon (Sept. 30). Each of the Sycamores’ top five finishers placed within the top 100 of the 200-runner field and all nine runners set personal bests. Indiana State totaled a team score of 326, while Arizona won the event with a score of 70.
"We would have like to have cracked the top 10, but overall it was a strong effort," said head coach John McNichols. "We came away from this meet feeling like we could have raced better, but we were able to beat a number of quality programs.”
Sean Bowman led the Sycamores, finishing the 8k course in 24:54, which set a personal best. Bowman took 54th place, while senior Jordan Fife, competing in his first race of the season took 56th with a mark of 24:58. Fife’s time also gives him a new personal best, slicing 32 seconds off his previous best (25:30) which he set last year at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational.
Blaine Zimmerman was the third Sycamore to cross the finish line, posting a personal-best time of 25:01. His previous best was a mark of 25:27, set September 16th at the Indiana Intercollegiates. Zimmeran earned 57th place, while teammate Justin Kunz finished 71st with a personal-best time of 25:11. Sophomore Antonio McDaniel completed the course in a personal-best 25:28 to finish 92nd.
Senior John Nay shaved one second of his personal best, finishing in 25:52 to claim 128th place. Junior Jeremy Kunz completed the course in 26:00, while Kyle Walsh’s time of 26:09 gave him a personal best at 8k, as he finished 149th. ISU’s final runner, Erik Forehand, posted a personal-best time of 26:37, which was good for 167th place.
The Sycamores return to action on Saturday, October 15, when they host the 2005 NCAA Pre-Nationals at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course.
