BOWMAN NAMED MVC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE
OF THE WEEK
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Indiana State’s Sean
Bowman, a member of the men’s cross country team, was selected
the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of
the Week, MVC Commissioner Doug Elgin announced yesterday (11/2).
Bowman was honored for his performance during the period of October
23-29.
The Valley's Scholar-Athlete program, which is sponsored by Prairie
Farms, Roberts and Hiland Dairies, honors conference student-athletes
for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic
success in the classroom. The program began during the 1999-00 academic
year.
"We are grateful for our continued corporate partnership with
Prairie Farm's family of dairies," said Commissioner Elgin,
who is in his 19th year with The Valley. "Recognizing our student-athletes
like Sean (Bowman) for his athletic performance and his academic
success is a compliment to the total person."
A member of the Indiana State men's cross country team, Bowman,
a senior from Nashville, Ind., finished third, garnering All-conference
honors, at the 2006 State Farm MVC Championship in Lincoln, Neb.,
on Oct. 28, while guiding the Sycamores to the overall team title.
Bowman, who has a 3.93 cumulative grade-point average in exercise
science, covered the 8K course in a time of 25:09 at Pioneers Park.
Bowman led a group of four Indiana State runners who finished in
the top 15, as the Sycamores won the championship for a third-straight
season.
To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete
of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point
average of 3.00, completed at least one academic year at a Valley
institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will
be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
