SYCAMORES HOLD SPOTS IN REGIONAL POLLS – NATIONALLY RANKED FIELD COMING TO TERRE HAUTE ON SATURDAY

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State men and women’s cross country teams remained No. 9 and No. 12 in their respective regional polls released this week by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. 45 of the top 60 teams in the nation will participate in the Pre-Nationals Invitational this weekend as a record 87 teams for the women and 86 teams for the men have entered to run on the same course used for the 2006 NCAA Championships in November.

On the women’s side, Stanford, Colorado and Michigan ranked No. 1 through No. 3 respectively will headline the competition. The field also includes the No.’s 4-12, 14-18, 21-24, 26, 27 and 29 ranked squads. The facet includes teams from the PAC-10, Big Ten, Big 12, Southeastern Conference, Big East, the ACC and more.

The men will be without the top two teams, Wisconsin and Arkansas, but return a field that includes the top-two runners on the ISU 8k course: Josh Rohatinsky of BYU (23:30.7, 2nd all-time) and Liberty’s Josh McDougal (23:12.6, all-time course record). The men’s field will include No.’s 3-5, 7-10, 13-16, 18-22 and 25-29.

Races are scheduled to begin Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. with the Women’s 6k Blue race beginning. Records will be set right out of the gate as the women will compete on the newly designed 6k course for 2006. Races will continue through the day with the Women’s 6k White race at 11:35 a.m., Men’s 8k Blue race at 12:10 p.m., Men’s 8k White race at 12:50 p.m. and the Women’s 6k/Men’s 8k Open races beginning at 1:30 p.m. and 2:05 p.m.
