BOWMAN AND ENGLE SWEEP
ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONORS
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana
State juniors Sean Bowman (Nashville, Ind./Milligan
College) and Laura Engle (Terre Haute,
Ind./South HS) have been named the State Farm Missouri Valley
Conference Athletes of the Week. It is the second time this season
Bowman has been honored as the Athlete of the Week, and the first
such honor of the year for Engle.
Engle posted a personal-best time of 17:40 in
the 5k, as she took first place at the Gold Race of the Notre Dame
Invitational last Friday (Sept. 30). It was the first career win
for Engle at ISU. She took four seconds off her previous best time,
which she set last year at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational.
Engle helped the Sycamores tie for fourth-place in the meet with
a team score of 189.
Bowman paced the Sycamores to a 12th place finish
in the Blue Race of the Notre Dame Invitational. His time of 24:54
in the 8k was a new personal best and also ranks as a league best
this season. Bowman placed 54th out of the 200 runners in the event.
He was named the State Farm MVC Male Athlete of the week on September
13th after posting a time of 26:03 at the ISU Invitational on September
10.
In addition to the individual honors, the Sycamore
men’s cross country team was recently ranked seventh in the
latest Great Lakes Regional Poll (Oct. 3). It is the highest ranking
of any MVC team this season. The Sycamores are off this weekend
before hosting the 2005 Pre-Nationals at the LaVern Gibson Championship
Course on October 15.
