KYLE HOOPER AND MADISON MILLER IMPRESS AT EAST COAST BOWL VI

Petersburg, VA Indiana State seniors Kyle Hooper and Madison Miller competed in the sixth annual East Coast Bowl All-Star game, and performed very well as they received a chance to work out and play for professional scouts last week.

Hooper served as the kicker for the victorious North Squad, who won 26-24 on the game’s final play. Hooper connected on field goals of 49 and 42 yards in the contest, as well as both of his PAT’s. As a Sycamore, Hooper’s career-long field goal was from 47 yards out, but he bested that mark in the all-star game. He finished his career as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 220 career points.

Miller saw action for the North as a defensive end. He finished the contest with four total tackles, including a pair of solo stops.

With time running out in the contest, and the South holding a 24-20 advantage, on fourth and 4, quarterback Justin Rummell (Earlham) found WR Chris Turner over the middle of the field in stride as he was streaking toward the end zone. Turner dove at the 4-yard line and was hit by Terrence Stafford (Bowie St) and Jasper Johnson (Central Arkansas).

As he was flipping in the air the ball was knocked out by Johnson and was recovered by Saint Francis (Ind.) wide receiver Michael Caputo at the four. On the very next play, Rummell found tailback Wendell Johnson (Fairmont St.) out of the backfield and he waltzed in untouched to secure victory for the North 26-24 with no time on the clock.

The game featured 70 of the best Division I-AA, II, III and NAIA players from 33 different states. All revenue generated from this event was used to award a high school student, who will attend a Division I-AA, II, III or NAIA college, financial assistance.
