FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MEN’S
BASKETBALL INKS TWO FOR 2006-07
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana
State men’s basketball program announced it has received National
Letters of Intent from Todd McCoy (Philadelphia,
Pa./Johnson County CC) and Marico Stinson
(Memphis, Tenn./Kingsbury HS) for the 2006-07 season.
McCoy will have two years of eligibility with
ISU after spending the past two seasons with Johnson County Community
College in Kansas. The Jayhawks posted an 18-15 record this season
after finishing 15-17 in 2004-05.
“We felt with the loss of David Moss that
we needed to get a mature wing player who can give us a physical
presence,” said head coach Royce Waltman. “Todd is the
type of player that will be able to come in and make an immediate
impact.”
A 6-4 small forward, he averaged 16.2 points and
7.6 rebounds this past season. McCoy connected on 37 percent of
his three-point shots and added 1.8 steals per game this season
as he was named a Division II NJCAA Second-Team All-American.
Stinson, a 6-2 guard, finished his senior season
averaging 24.5 points per game. He tallied 5.1 rebounds per game
and guided Kingsbury High to a 20-9 mark this year. As a junior
he was named to the Memphis Commercial Appeal’s Class A-AA
Top of the Preps First Team. Stinson was an honorable mention all-state
selection in Tennessee and helped the Falcons to a top-10 ranking
in Memphis.
“Everyone who has evaluated Marico has seen
a player who is an all-around talent,” noted Waltman. “He
can play a variety of positions and should have great success in
our system.”
The addition of McCoy and Stinson gives the Sycamores
five new additions to the roster for next season. Guard Cole
Holmstrom (Bloomington, Ind./South HS), center
Brant Leitnaker (Lancaster, Ohio), and
small forward Norman Wells (Madison, Ind.)
all signed with Indiana State during the early signing period
in November.
