BOX SCORE (HTML)

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Jay Tunnell (Topeka, KS) scored a team high 13 points, all in the second half as Indiana State downed Illinois State 54-50 in front of 4,543 at Redbird Arena.

The win was the fifth straight for the Sycamores (10-4/3-1) and snapped a five game losing streak in Normal.  It was Indiana State’s first win on the road since IP-Fort Wayne on November 19.

Indiana State led by 25-20 at the half after hitting three straight three pointers, two by Marico Stinson (Memphis, TN) and one by Todd McCoy (Philadelphia, PA).  Neither club shot the ball well in the first half, both shooting just 25 percent from the field and a combined 6-25 from three.  Free throws were the difference as the Sycamores went 6-6 from the line in the first stanza while the Redbirds went 5-9.

In the second half, Indiana State pushed the lead to six 30-24 on a Tunnell three, but the Redbirds answered with a 7-0 run for a 31-30 lead with 12:10 to go.  From that point, the game would be tied four times until Adam Arnold (Decatur, IN) gave the Sycamores the lead for good with 1:38 left.

Arnold had nine points and eight rebounds off the bench, while McCoy chipped in with seven.  Gabe Moore (Little Rock, Ark) had six assists in the win.  Overall, the Sycamores shot 31.9 percent from the field, but were 18-22 from the line.  Illinois State (8-7/0-4) shot 32.7 percent from the field and 4-24 from three point range.

The Sycamores return to the Hulman Center for a two game home stand this Wednesday hosting Wichita State at 7:05pm and Bradley on Saturday at 7:35pm.
