THREE KEYS DRAKE TO VICTORY OVER INDIANA STATE

DES MOINES, Iowa -
Josh Young’s three pointer with 1:10 left to play snapped a 68-68
tie as the Drake Bulldogs knocked off Indiana State 74-68 at the
Knapp Center in Des Moines Iowa Thursday night.
ISU (11-6/4-3) tied the
game at 68 on Trent Wurtz (Sheboygan, WI) three from the top
of the key with 1:40 left in the game. Drake (11-8/2-6) then got
two free throws from Al Stewart after the Young three to make it
73-68. The Sycamores could not find the basket in the final 1:40 of
the game.
The first half was a half
of runs, as Indiana State went on a 19-1 run thanks to two three
pointers by Marico Stinson (Memphis, TN) and a pair of
driving lay-ups by Harry Marshall (Bowling Green, IN) the
Sycamores led it 23-12 with 10:59 left in the first half. The
Bulldogs answered with a 15-0 run and take a 35-32 halftime
advantage.
In the second half, the
Sycamores biggest lead was three, after Cole Holmstrom’s
(Bloomington, IN) back-to-back three’s. Drake got the lead to
five three different times, but the Sycamores answered as Tunnell
hit two free throws and a turnaround jumper in the lane to make it
62-59 with 5:23 to play.
Stinson led the Sycamores
with 14 points while Tunnell added 13. Gabe Moore (Little
Rock, Ark) finished with 9 points and a career high 9 assists.
ISU shot 46.2 percent from the floor, including 8-20 from three.
ISU now travels to Cedar
Falls, Iowa for a Saturday showdown with Northern Iowa. Tip off is
set for 8:05pm Terre Haute time.
