EVANSVILLE DOWNS INDIANA STATE
EVANSVILLE, Ind. -
Hot shooting by Evansville proved to be too much as Indiana State
fell to the Purple Aces 76-61 Sunday afternoon at Roberts Stadium.
Evansville (13-13, 6-9) shot 52 percent from the field in the second
half after starting the game hitting five consecutive three
pointers.
ISU (12-13, 5-10) got
rolling in the first half behind Cole Holmstrom (Bloomington, IN)
hot shooting. The freshman hit two three’s and then a jumper to cut
the Aces lead to eight 25-17. Mick Yelovich (Mt. Zion, IL) got the
lead down to four, 25-21 on a lay-up. Then Bradley Strickland had a
tip in and a three by Jason Holsinger pushed the lead to seven,
32-25 at the break.
In the second half, the
Sycamores got it down to five on a Marico Stinson (Memphis, TN)
three pointer that made it 37-32 with 18:38 left. That was a close
as ISU would get it as Strickland took over. He had 18 points and 7
rebounds in the second half to finish with a double-double of 24
points and 10 rebounds.
Holmstrom was the only
Sycamore in double figures with 19, tying his career high with five
three pointers. Yelovich came off the bench with a season best nine
points and five rebounds. ISU shot 43.3% from the field, including
hitting eight three’s in the contest.
Indiana State returns to
action on Wednesday night, February 14, when they open their final
home stand of the season hosting the Redbirds of Illinois State.
Tip off is set for 7:05pm.
