SYCAMORES SEAL 59-47
WIN WITH 18-2 SECOND HALF RUN
Box Score
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State locked
up Tulane in the second half, allowing only two points during a
six-minute span in the second half to secure a 59-47 home win on
Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Sycamores to 3-1 while
Tulane drops to 4-2.
Indiana State was led by Gabe Moore with 15 points as the sophomore
filled out the stat sheet with three assists, three steals and four
rebounds. Jay Tunnell and Marico Stinson each chipped in 12 and
11 as the remaining Sycamores in double figures. Tulane’s
David Gomez led all scorers with 20 points, adding seven rebounds.
ISU got out to a sluggish start, falling behind by six in the first
five minutes of the game. However, the Sycamores would find their
groove and put together an 11-0 run to build a lead of five with
ten minutes remaining in the first half.
Both schools would battle during the remainder of the half with
Indiana State carrying a two-point lead into the break 27-25.
The slow start would haunt the Sycamores again in the second half
as the Green Wave went on a 15-5 run over the first nine minutes
of the half, building a lead of 40-32 with 10:48 remaining.
However, the water would run dry for the Waves as the Sycamores
put together their own 18-2 run as Stinson and Moore combined for
three buckets from behind the arc during the stretch.
“During that span someone had to have the guts to take a
shot,” Head coach Royce Waltman said of the turn around. “Once
Rico (Stinson) hit that first shot the rest started to fall.”
The about face put the Sycamores ahead 50-42 with five minutes
remaining in the game. Indiana State continued to perform down the
stretch, sealing the win from the charity stripe hitting seven of
eight in the final minute of the game.
Trent Wurtz and Adam Arnold recorded 12 and nine rebounds, respectively
in the win as Indiana State out rebounded Tulane 43-32.
The Sycamores will be back in action on Monday night when Indiana
State hosts Oakland City with tip-off scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
***Notes***
Trent Wurtz tied a career high with 12 rebounds.
After not scoring in the first two games of the season, Marico
Stinson has put together back-to-back double figure games.

opponents.
ISU’s 19 of 26 shooting from the free throw line is the best
percentage (73.1 percent) from the line this season. The Sycamores
also set a new season-high in rebounds with 43.
Tulane’s final score of 47 marks the first time since December
23, 2004 that a Sycamore team has held a team under 50 points. (Long
Beach State, 38).
