SYCAMORES REDUCE THE
MIGHTY OAKS TO ACORNS IN 66-52 WIN
Box Score
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State tallied
its fourth victory of the season with a 66-52 win over Oakland City
on Monday night at the Hulman Center. The Sycamores were led by
freshman Marico Stinson with a game-high 18 points, all in the second
half.
The Mighty Oaks fought to an early lead with a five point advantage
(9-4) in the first five minutes of the game. However, ISU found
its groove as each team battled back and forth with the teams drawing
five ties heading into the final five minutes of the half.
Indiana State would build its largest lead of the first half at
six (32-26) with a minute left in the half and carried a lead of
three (32-29) into the break after a three-point bucket by Troy
Cox.
The Oaks would keep the game close in the first half, shooting
6 of 9 behind the three-point arc. However, the Sycamores would
hold the height advantage, tallying eight offensive rebounds and
ten second-chance points.
Indiana State would not relinquish the lead despite runs by Oakland
City as the Mighty Oaks trimmed the Sycamore lead to three on multiple
occasions during the first seven minutes of the second half.
ISU would build its largest lead of ten with three minutes remaining
and held the double-digit lead down the stretch for the 66-52 win.
“We just found a way to win tonight,” sophomore Jay
Tunnell said following the victory. “We kept them in the game,
but finally stretched it out a bit in the end. It was good to get
this game behind us.”
Stinson’s second half spurt of 18 was a game-high and career
high for the freshman. Teammates Gabe Moore (15), Tunnell (13) and
Trent Wurtz (10) also turned in double-digit scoring numbers for
the Sycamores. Tunnell and Wurtz would add a game-high eight rebounds
each as Indiana State tallied 42 total rebounds-the second highest
mark this season.
ISU will take its second road trip of the season as the Sycamores
travel to Murfreesboro, Tennessee for a match-up with Middle Tennessee
State on Thursday before wrapping up the road swing in Muncie, Indiana
with a showdown with Ball State on Saturday.

Russell Trudeau tallied a career-high five assists.
The team’s 16 offensive rebounds match a season-high set
