SOFTBALL ADDS THREE MORE TO 2007 ROSTER

TERRE HAUTE, Ind -- Indiana State softball head coach Brenda Coldren announced today (June 21) the addition of three student-athletes to the roster for the 2007 softball season. Signing on with the Sycamores are Lindsay Horta (Riverside, Calif./King), Audrey Childress (Chesterfield, Mo./Marquette) and Katie Iocoangeli (Terre Haute, Ind./St. Mary of the Woods).

Horta, is a pitcher and plays for the Redrum Gold. At King High School, she was a member of league championship teams in 2003 and 2004. Horta was that league’s most valuable pitcher both years and all-conference in 2005.

Childress will be a redshirt freshman for ISU. She was the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Player of the Year her senior year in high school. Childress owns six offensive school records, including career batting average (.443), hits (160), home runs (17) and RBIs (81). Childress, who hit leadoff, had a .468 batting average, 51 hits, 33 runs, 12 doubles, seven triples, six home runs and 36 RBIs as a senior. She was selected first team all-state and First Team All-Suburban West for four consecutive seasons.

Iocoangeli, a junior transfer, spent two seasons at St. Mary of the Woods College where she set the single-season home run record as a freshman with nine and hit .463 with 18 doubles. As a sophomore she added another seven long balls, while driving in 35 runs and hit .427. Iocoangeli was a four-time All-Vigo County selection by the Terre Haute Tribune Star while playing for Terre Haute North Vigo High School.

In 2007, the Indiana State softball team will return four of their top five batters, by average. Also returning will be All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team pitcher Darcy Wood, who set school records for pitching victories (21) and strikeouts (264). The Sycamores enjoyed one of their finest seasons by finishing the year with a 25-26 record and winning a school-record 12 MVC contests. ISU finished sixth in the MVC standings, its highest league finish in over 10 seasons.
