SYCAMORES SPLIT AT MARSHALL
HUNTINGTON, W.V. –
Indiana
State
softball’s Spring Break trip continued today (March 14) as the
Sycamores split a doubleheader at
Marshall. The Sycamores won the
first game of the day by a 2-0 count before dropping the nightcap
9-1. ISU is 8-8 on the season, while Marshall is now 13-12.
ISU sophomore pitcher Darcy Wood tossed a two-hit shutout in
capturing the victory. She struck out nine members of the
Thundering Herd during seven innings of work. Five different
Sycamores posted hits in the contest, with Katie Armour and
Jessica McGivney driving in the ISU runs.
The game was scoreless until the top of the sixth when the
Sycamores plated both of their runs. Wood made the lead stand by
allowing nothing in the sixth and seventh for ISU’s eighth victory
of the season, 2-0. She improved to 5-4 on the season with the
victory.
ISU’s starter in the second game was freshman Katie Armour. She
allowed a pair of runs in the game’s fourth inning, after a
scoreless first three innings. Armour stayed in the contest as a
designated player to drive in the lone ISU run during the top of
the seventh inning.
Marshall used four runs
in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth to earn the
9-1 victory. The loss dropped Armour’s season record to 1-2.
Indiana State returns to
action tomorrow at 4:00 p.m (EST) when they finish the current
