ISU DROPS LATE LEAD AT LOUISVILLE

LOUISVILLE, Ky. The Indiana State softball team took a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning at the University of Louisville, but the Cardinals found enough offensive spark towards the end to pull out a 2-1 victory. ISU drops to 8-9, while U of L improved to 14-2.

ISU started off the second inning on the right foot when Kelsey Anderson singled to right field. After a pair of outs moved Anderson to second, Yvette Tovar singled to right field, to drive in ISU’s lone run of the day.

Darcy Wood looked like she was going to make that one run stand until the sixth, when Louisville’s Moore doubled to left field to lead off the frame. Moore’s double was followed with one by Wood who advanced to third on the throw and drove in the game-tying run.  After a strike out, McCrain grounded out to drive in Wood for Louisville’s 2-1 lead.

ISU did not plate a run in the seventh as the Sycamores dropped the contest.

Wood scattered five hits over six innings of work in the loss. She dropped to 5-5 on the season.

Allie May, Tovar and Anderson each recorded hits for the Sycamores in the contest.

The Sycamores return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Missouri State for the Missouri Valley Conference opener. ISU opens a three-game series in Springfield on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. (EST).
