MISSOURI STATE NETS THREE-GAME SWEEP OF INDIANA STATE

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. Missouri State completed a three-game Missouri Valley Conference sweep of Indiana State with a 4-3 extra-inning victory over the Sycamores on Sunday afternoon. ISU fell to 8-12, 0-3 MVC while the Bears improved to 17-9, 3-0 MVC.

It took nine innings for the series’ third and final game to be completed. Missouri State took the victory with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Sycamores staked themselves to a 3-0 lead, but gave up a pair of runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to knot the score.

Sophomore Darcy Wood (5-7) took the loss for ISU. She went 8.1 innings in the circle, allowing 10 hits and only one earned one. She walked six Bears and stuck out six more.

Freshman Meredith Simpson went 3-of-5 at the plate in the contest, with a run scored and one other knocked in. Fellow freshman Christina Meyers was 2-of-4 in the contest with a run scored. Jackie Chomicki and Allie May each also drove in one run each in defeat.

ISU returns to action on Wednesday, March 22 when they host Eastern Illinois in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. (EST) at Price Field.
