SOFTBALL SPLITS RESULTS
WITH WICHITA IN DOUBLEHEADER
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. –
Indiana State’s pitcher Darcy Wood was finding her marks in
a 2-0 win over the Wichita State Shockers in game one of a doubleheader
Saturday afternoon. However, it would be a different story for Indiana
State pitching in game two, as ISU fell to the Shockers 10-2 in
five innings.
In game one, Wood pitched a near flawless game
going the full seven innings with seven strikeouts and only four
hits. The Sycamores defense was also solid behind Wood allowing
only one extra base hit and no errors.
Indiana State’s offense would come through
in the third inning as the team showed patience at the plate and
drew two walks early in the frame. Meredith Simpson’s single
would load the bases and Yvette Tovar’s slide into home plate
was called out for the second of the inning. ISU freshman Katie
Armour would come to the plate next and hit a two-run double as
the runners on first and second would score. The two runs would
prove to be the difference maker in the close game.
“We played up to our potential in game
one,” head coach Brenda Coldren said. “It was a true
team effort; Darcy threw a great game, we played error-free defense
and offensively we stepped up at the right times.”
In game two, Sycamore pitchers struggled to
find their mark and walked four batters and threw four wild pitches.
The miscues would prove costly for Indiana State as the home team
gave up seven runs in the second inning and couldn’t recover
down the stretch, despite a slight momentum swing in the bottom
of the fifth inning.
Armour was credited with the loss after allowing
six runs (five earned), two walks and three wild pitches in 1.1
innings worth of work. Indiana State’s fielders also committed
two errors in the shortened loss.
The Sycamores will finish the series with the
Shockers tomorrow at noon.
