FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DARCY WOOD NAMED VALLEY PITCHER OF THE
WEEK
ST. LOUIS –
Indiana State sophomore
pitcher Darcy Wood has been named the Missouri Valley Conference’s
Pitcher of the Week for her efforts this past weekend as ISU took
2-of-3 contests from league preseason favorite Wichita State.
Wood was not scored upon in two
complete game victories over Wichita
State
this past weekend. She finished the week with a 0.00 ERA, and a
perfect 2-0 record. The right-hander was credited with both of ISU
shutouts on the year -- just the third and fourth times this year
that the high-powered Shocker offense has not scored a run.
In 14 innings of work, the
sophomore scattered eight hits and allowed no runs. She struck out
13 Shockers over the two-game stretch, while WSU hit .167 against
her. Wood allowed 10 total baserunners during the series. Her
impressive weekend in the circle gives Wood 312 career strikeouts,
which vaulted her to second place all-time in the school's record
book.
This is the second time in her
career that Wood has taken The Valley’s top weekly pitching honor.
Indiana
State
stays at Price Field on Wednesday as they host
Illinois
State
in a MVC doubleheader. First pitch is set for
2:00 p.m. (EST).
