EVANSVILLE,  Ind. – Indiana State looked for its first three-game MVC series sweep of the season after taking both games of a doubleheader from the Purple Aces on Saturday, but UE won in the finale today by a 6-0 count as ISU won 2-of-3 during the critical weekend. The Sycamores fell to 23-25, 10-14 while Evansville improved to 21-26, 6-18 MVC.

The University of Evansville softball team scored four runs off of six hits in the fifth inning today to power past Indiana State University 6-0 at UE's Cooper Stadium.

The Aces out hit the Sycamores 8-3 and recorded three doubles and a home run on the day.

A ground ball from freshman Kristen Shirk scored Liz Mooney to give UE an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.

UE added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ashley Werner led off the inning with a single to right field. After a stolen base, a Kristen Shirk sacrifice bunt moved Werner to third, and an error on the throw scored Werner to make it a 2-0 Aces lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, senior Alicia Laraway hit her 16th home run of the season to left field. The bomb made it a 3-0 game and added one more to her single season record. Liz Mooney and Ashley Werner then gave the Aces another run with back to back doubles. Laura Rather stepped to the plate and ripped a single to left field that scored Werner. Back to back singles from Rather and Kristen Shirk, and a single from Amanda Ockomon gave UE another run, for a final 6-0 lead.

Today's game marked the final home game of Laraway's career as a Purple Ace. Laraway went 1-4 with an RBI, a run scored, and the home run. Liz Mooney was 2-4 with two doubles, and Ashley Werner was 2-2 with two runs, an RBI and three stolen bases.

Freshman Ashley Hobbs recorded the complete game victory to improve to 11-9 on the season. She struck out five and only allowed three hits.

Indiana State ends its season next weekend at home in a three-game series against Drake.
