ST. LOUIS – Indiana State sophomore pitcher Darcy Wood was named to the 2006 All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team at the league’s annual banquet tonight. It is the first All-MVC mention for Wood during her career.

Wood set the ISU single-season record for pitching victories (21), strikeouts (264), shutouts (9), innings pitched (242.2), and complete games (32). She tossed each of ISU’s final 54 innings of the season, as the Sycamores finished sixth in the final league standings, but were bumped from their first MVC Tournament berth since the 2000 season by host Creighton.

Also at the banquet, the MVC Player of the Year was Samantha Fleeman of Missouri State while the Pitcher of the Year was SIU’s Cassidy Scoggins. The MVC Newcomer of the Year was Amber Smith of Illinois State and the Redbirds’ coaching staff took Coach of the Year honors.
