JACKIE CHOMICKI EARNS ACADEMIC
ALL-DISTRICT HONORS
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. –
Indiana State junior outfielder Jackie Chomicki (Overland Park,
Kan./Blue Valley Northwest)
has been named an ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-District First Team selection for softball by the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). It is the
first such honor for Chomicki, who earned All-MVC Academic First
Team status in 2005.
Chomicki, who carries a 4.00 GPA in Fitness and
Exercise Science, hit .268 this season for the Sycamores. She tied
for the team lead by drawing 16 walks, and posted six sacrifices
this season, which was tied for the most on the team. Her 33
career sacrifices are tied for sixth in school history. She is a
Verizon Scholar Athlete and member of the MVC Honor Roll. She
played in and started all 51 games this year for the Sycamores,
and was 7-of-8 in stolen base attempts this season.
Chomicki will now head to the national ballot
for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America consideration. The
Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female
student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level
on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are
selected through voting by CoSIDA (the College Sports Information
Directors of America), a 2,000 member organization consisting of
sports public relations professionals for colleges and
universities in the United States and Canada.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a
varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point
average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore
athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and
be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the
program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic
All-America honors on more than 14,000 student athletes in
Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship
sports.
