SYCAMORES STEP TO THE PLATE FOR 10 GAMES IN 7 DAYS
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Sycamore’s
(7-3, 0-0 MVC) prepare for their longest road trip of the season
coming off of a 3rd place finish at the Hampton Inn Crimson Tide
Classic in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
A pair of Sycamores won All-Tournament honors for their play in
last weekends Hampton Inn Crimson Tide Classic. Freshman Audrey
Childress, now batting (.357) to go with one homerun and five RBI’s,
provided the timely offense as she drove in the game winning RBI’s
against N.C. State who was ranked #22/23 in the country at the time.
The other honoree was Junior Pitcher Darcy Wood who went (1-2) with
a save on the weekend while striking out 25 batters. On the season
Wood now holds a record of (4-3) to go with a 1.54 ERA and 50 strikeouts.
Wood’s losses came in close games against Alabama (now #3
in the country) and N.C. State (was ranked #22/23 at the time).
The first stop on the trip is in Atlanta, Georgia as the Sycamore’s
will face tough competition in the Georgia Tech Buzz Classic (March
2-4). This tournament features a five pool field headlined by #21/24
Georgia Tech, will play in the same pool as the Sycamore's, who
are fresh off a share of the NFCA Leadoff Classic tournament championship
last weekend as they went (4-1) against a nationally ranked field
of teams. Georgia Tech features one of the best infielders in the
country, Sophomore Jennifer Yee, who batted (.466) to go along with
11 homeruns and 31 RBI’s a season ago as a freshman.
Other teams set to compete in the same pool as the Sycamore's at
the Buzz Classic are the University of New Mexico Lobos, the Lipscomb
University Lady Bisons, and the Centenary University Bisons.
The Buzz Classic is scheduled to have pool play (March 2-3) followed
by tournament play (March 4). The Sycamore’s play #21/24 Georgia
Tech at 2:00 p.m. on Friday March 2nd followed by a 5:00 p.m. game
against Centenary later that day. Play resumes Saturday March 3rd
as the Sycamore’s meet Lipscomb at 10:00 a.m. followed by
New Mexico at 7:00 p.m. to complete head to head play. The slate
of games on Sunday March 4th will be determined by the standings
from the previous two days. All games of the Buzz Classic will be
played at the Twin Creek Softball Complex in Woodstock, Georgia.

The road trip continues following completion of the Buzz Classic
as the Sycamore’s will hit the road to Starkville, Miss. to
play the Mississippi State University Bulldogs for a 4:00 p.m. game
on Tuesday March 6th. Although not ranked Mississippi State is a
tough team that features one of the best shortstops in the country,
Junior Courtney Bures. Bures was a member of the 2006 USA World
University squad that won the gold medal in Taiwan and owns a career
(.369) batting average to go along with 22 homeruns and 91 RBI’s
in her first two years of collegiate competition.
After the Mississippi State game the Sycamore’s head back
north as they stop in Nashville, Tenn. for games against Belmont
and Lipscomb before returning home. Play in Nashville, Tenn. begins
with Belmont on Wednesday March 7th for a pair of games with the
first one beginning at 2:00 p.m. followed by the second at 4:00
p.m. to be played at Aquinas Field on Belmont’s campus. On
Thursday March 8th the Sycamore’s then travel across town
to meet Lipscomb for games at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. to be played at
Draper Diamond on Lipscomb’s campus.
