SYCAMORES FALL IN FINAL GAME AT BUZZ CLASSIC

ATLANTA Going into play on Sunday (March 4) at the Buzz Classic the Sycamore’s were sitting atop a (3-1) record on the weekend and poised to make waves in the tournament’s championship round.

They were matched up with Boston University in the first game of the championship round for a 9:00 a.m. game at the Twin Creek Softball Complex.

Junior Darcy Wood got the start at pitcher for the Sycamores, coming off her pitching win over #21/24 Georgia Tech earlier in the weekend. Boston U. would send Sophomore Cassidi Hardy to the mound to lead the Terrier effort.

Through the first 3 innings this seemed to be a pitchers duel as Boston U. clung to the slight (2-0) lead. In the top of the 4th the flood gates opened and the Terriers charged as they rounded the bases 4 times in the inning to push the overall score to (6-0) in their favor.

With the score (7-1) going to the bottom of the 5th the Sycamores mounted a comeback as the inning started with a Sophomore Christina Meyers infield single. The Sycamore’s would score 3 runs in the innings on only 2 hits as they capitalized upon Boston U. defensive mistakes and effectively ran the bases.

The game would end by a (10-5) margin in favor of the Terriers as Boston U. would total 16 hits on the game compared to the Sycamore’s 6.

Wood would take the loss in this one as she was credited for all 10 runs scored by Boston U. for the game. Hardy for Boston U. put forth a solid effort as she went all 7.0 innings giving up 5 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits while striking out 11 Sycamore’s.

Sophomore Meredith Simpson provided the steady bat in this game as she went (3 for 4) at the plate while scoring 3 of the 5 Sycamore runs.

The road trip continues on Tuesday, March 6 in Starkville, Miss. as the Sycamore’s are set to play the Mississippi State Bulldogs for a single game at 4:00 p.m. local time.
