FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SYCAMORES
TRUMPED BY THE ACES OF EVANSVILLE (2-1)
TERRE
HAUTE, Ind. – The Sycamore’s and the Purple
Aces of Evansville met Sunday in the rubber match of the weekend
series between the two clubs. On Saturday the teams split a pair
of games, each claiming (2-1) victories.
On Sunday the
trend would continue as the Aces claimed yet another (2-1) victory
to take two out of the three weekend games.
The Sycamore’s
Darcy Wood had a strong outing despite taking the loss as she went
9.0 innings giving up 2 runs (1 unearned) on 9 hits while striking
out 12 Purple Aces.
The leader for
the Aces proved to be Brittany Herald, who is among the league leaders
in several offensive categories. Herald stepped to the plate in
the top of the 8th with the score tied at one and had the count
at (0-1) before her team mate was caught stealing from first for
the final out of the innings which meant she would get another try
in the top of the 9th. In the 9th with no runners aboard Herald
belted a deep homerun to left-center field which was the go ahead
run and the eventual game winning shot. For the game she went 2
for 3 with the homerun.
The Sycamore’s
seemed to be off to another hot start on the day as Sophomore Meredith
Simpson ripped the very first pitch of the game from Evansville’s
Jackie Bradley into center field. However, after that the offense
seemed to stall as the Sycamore’s wouldn’t get on the
board until the bottom of the 5th when Sophomore Lauren Kebely drove
a single into right field which brought home her team mate, Junior
Katie Iocoangeli.
Kebely was 1
for 4 with the RBI and Iocoangeli was 0 for 3 while scoring the
Sycamore’s lone run.
The Sycamore’s
are now (14-9, 1-2 MVC) on the year while Evansville moves to (17-4,
2-1 MVC).
Sycamore’s
are in action again on Wednesday, March 17 as they travel to Charleston,
Ill. to face non-conference rival Eastern Illinois. The game is
scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. central.
