SYCAMORES
PREPARE FOR WEEK OF GAMES
TERRE
HAUTE, Ind. –
The Sycamore’s now stand at (14-9, 1-2 MVC) following the
opening of conference play last weekend. The Sycamore’s went
(1-2) against the Purple Aces of Evansville, all three games were
decided by a 2-1 margin.
Sophomore Meredith
Simpson and Freshman Megan McCurdy turned in outstanding performances
over the weekend. Simpson, now 7th in the MVC for batting average
(.392), went 4 for 11 at the plate while scoring 2 runs. McCurdy
pitched in the second game on Saturday, March 17 and went 7.0 innings
giving up one run (unearned) on four hits, striking out four batters,
to secure the victory.
The schedule
of games this week gets no easier as the Sycamore’s are set
to face opponents Eastern Illinois, Saint Louis, and #20 Southern
Illinois.
The game against
Eastern Illinois will take place in Charleston, Ill. with a 4:00
p.m. start time on Wednesday, March 20. The game can be followed

The Panthers
have a record of (8-13, 0-3 Ohio Valley) on the year. Their main
offensive weapon so far this season has proved to be Robyn Mackie
who is batting at a .339 clip while accounting for six RBI’s
and five runs scored.
The Sycamore
all-time record against Eastern Illinois currently stands at 25-38.
Next up will
be Saint Louis University on Thursday, March 21 as the Sycamore’s
travel back home to host the remainder of the week’s games.
Games will begin at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. local time at Price
Field on the campus of Indiana State University.
The Bilikens
have a record of (12-13, 0-0 A10) with one of those losses coming
earlier this year to the Sycamore’s at the SE Louisiana tournament
in Hammond, Louisiana.
The Sycamore’s
won that game 6-1 behind great performances by two freshmen. Audrey
Childress went 3 for 3 with two RBI’s and two runs scored
while Meagan McCurdy pitched a complete game (7.0 innings) giving
up one run (unearned) on three hits while striking out five batters.
The Bilikens Jill Pursell also had a strong showing that game as
she went 2 for 3 at the plate.
The overall
series with SLU now stands at 7-2 with the Sycamore victory earlier
this year.
The final opponent
of the week will be MVC rival #20 Southern Illinois as the Sycamore’s
return to conference play. The games with the Salukis are set for
Saturday, March 24 and Sunday, March 25. The games on Saturday will
begin at 12:00 noon and 2:00 p.m. local time while the one game
on Sunday will begin at 12:00 noon at Price field on the campus
of Indiana State University.
The Salukis
have a record of (21-6, 3-0 MVC) as they are currently ranked #20
in the country. They are powered by Alicia Garza who is batting
(.383) with 15 RBI’s and 19 runs scored on the year.
The all-time
series with the Saluki’s now stands at 17-47 in Southern Illinois
favor.
