SYCAMORES THWARTED BY THE SHOCKERS OF WICHITA STATE

WICHITA, Kan. – The Sycamores took the field today for a two game set after a long layoff, due to last weekend’s rainout at Northern Iowa, to play Wichita State at Wilkens Stadium in Wichita, Kansas.

The Shockers took the win in game one by a margin of 1-0 and picked up another win in game two by a score of 5-1. The losses put the Sycamores record on the season to (15-17, 1-9 MVC) and boosts Wichita States record to (19-25, 8-6 MVC).

Game one started with Sycamore Junior Darcy Wood stepping to the mound. She allowed one run in the 1st inning on one hit, the only hit she would give up for the game, to the Shockers Senior Stephanie DeLaRiva. That hit brought home her teammate Junior Katie McGeeney who had walked to lead off the inning.

Darcy Wood (8-12) would go the whole way, 6.0 innings, giving up only one run on one hit while striking out eight Shocker batters.

The Sycamores got hits from Senior Jackie Chomicki and Junior Katie Iocoangeli but failed to score a run.

Chomicki went 1 for 1 while Iocoangeli went 1 for 3.

The Shockers Senior Margo Pruis (11-11) earned the victory as she went 7.0 innings giving up only the two hits while striking out four Sycamores.

Following a brief intermission the second game of the day kicked off at about 4:55 p.m. central time.

Darcy Wood would get her second start of the day in this one and would go 5.0 innings before giving way to Freshman Meagan McCurdy.

The Shockers used an explosive four run 5th inning to seal their second victory of the day by a 5-1 final margin.

The Sycamores run would come in the top of that very same inning as Sophomore Lauren Kebely walked and eventually scored due to a passed ball.

For the game Sophomore Meredith Simpson went 1 for 3 while her teammate, Senior Jackie Chomicki, matched her total as she also went 1 for 3. Kebely went 0 for 2 while scoring the Sycamores only run of the game.

Darcy Wood (8-13) went 5.0 innings in her second go around of the day, giving up five runs on nine hits while striking out another eight Shocker batters before McCurdy came in to finish the game out, she allowed one hit in her inning of work.

Junior Ashly Bright (5-9) would pick up the victory for the Shockers as she went all 7.0 innings giving up one run on two hits while striking out eight Sycamores.

The Sycamores and Shockers will meet up again for a 1:00 p.m. central time game tomorrow, Saturday, April 7 at Wilkens Stadium in Wichita, Kansas.
