SYCAMORES STUMBLE IN GAME THREE OF WEEKEND SERIES

WICHITA, Kan. – On another cold day at Wilkens Stadium the Sycamores (15-18, 1-10 MVC) came up short against the surging Wichita State Shockers (21-24, 9-6 MVC) as the Shockers took game three of the weekend series by a score of 8-1.

The Shockers utilized a six-run 1st inning to get off to a hot start on the day. The Sycamores would score a run in the top of the 6th but the Shockers added another two runs in the bottom half of the 6th to secure the 8-1 victory.

The Sycamores started the game with Junior Darcy Wood (8-14) stepping to the mound but she would last only 2/3 of an inning before giving way to Freshman Meagan McCurdy who pitched the rest of the way.

In her 0.2 innings of work Wood gave up six runs on five hits while striking out two batters. McCurdy went 5.1 innings giving up two runs (both unearned) on three hits with seven strikeouts in relief.

The Sycamores scoring came off the bat of Sophomore Meredith Simpson with one out in the top of the 6th as she hit a homerun to right center field. Senior Stephanie Spychaj also had a hit on the day.

Simpson finished the game going 2 for 3 with one run and one RBI with her homerun and Spychaj went 1 for 3.
