SYCAMORES
STUMBLE IN GAME THREE OF WEEKEND SERIES
WICHITA,
Kan. – On
another cold day at Wilkens Stadium the Sycamores (15-18, 1-10 MVC)
came up short against the surging Wichita State Shockers (21-24,
9-6 MVC) as the Shockers took game three of the weekend series by
a score of 8-1.
The Shockers
utilized a six-run 1st inning to get off to a hot start on the day.
The Sycamores would score a run in the top of the 6th but the Shockers
added another two runs in the bottom half of the 6th to secure the
8-1 victory.
The Sycamores
started the game with Junior Darcy Wood (8-14) stepping to the mound
but she would last only 2/3 of an inning before giving way to Freshman
Meagan McCurdy who pitched the rest of the way.
In her 0.2 innings
of work Wood gave up six runs on five hits while striking out two
batters. McCurdy went 5.1 innings giving up two runs (both unearned)
on three hits with seven strikeouts in relief.
The Sycamores
scoring came off the bat of Sophomore Meredith Simpson with one
out in the top of the 6th as she hit a homerun to right center field.
Senior Stephanie Spychaj also had a hit on the day.
Simpson finished
the game going 2 for 3 with one run and one RBI with her homerun
and Spychaj went 1 for 3.
Senior Margo
Pruis (12-11) got the victory for the Shockers as she went 7.0 innings
giving up one run on three hits while striking out seven Sycamores.
The Sycamores
next game comes on Tuesday, April 10 as they travel down to Bloomington,
Ind. to face the Hoosiers of Indiana. The game is set to begin at
4:00 p.m. at the IU Softball Field on the IU campus.
