SYCAMORES FALL VICTIM TO WALK-OFF HOMERUN IN SEVENTH AGAINST WICHITA STATE

NORMAL, Ill. – With a trip to the 2007 State Farm MVC Tournament semifinals on the line both No. 8 Indiana State as well as No. 4 Wichita State put their best pitchers in the circle during this evening’s (May 10) quarterfinal battle at the Redbird Softball Complex.

Both teams recorded just three hits in the game against Darcy Wood and Margo Pruis, but it was the Shockers’ third hit which sent them into Friday’s action and ended the Sycamores’ season. ISU finishes the campaign at 22-27 while Wichita State improves to 37-37.

ISU got a heroic second start of the day from Wood, who tossed eight innings earlier against Evansville in the opening round game. She pitched 6.1 innings, allowing three hits and the only run of the game for either team – a solo shot by Lisa Jones in the bottom of the seventh.

Lauren Kebely, Stephanie Spychaj and Christina Meyers each recorded hits for the Sycamores during the game against WSU’s Pruis. She recorded her 23rd victory of the season by allowing just three hits in seven innings of action. She struck out seven batters in the game.

Wichita State head coach Mike Perniciaro was ejected from the game in the bottom of the first inning.
