SYCAMORES GO UNDEFEATED AT RAIN SHORTENED FALL CLASSIC
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. –
The Indiana State softball team battled tough competition and a bout
with Mother Nature to go undefeated at this past weekend's Fall
Classic held at Price Field. The Sycamores tied with St. Joseph's
(Ind.) 2-2 in a game that was began before heavy rains settled in
during the fifth inning. Play resumed on Sunday with the Sycamores
downing Indiana 4-0 and IUPUI 7-1.
The Sycamores
and St. Joseph's battled to the 2-2 deadlock in
between heavy showers during the tournament's first
morning. The rest of the day's nine-game slated was
rained out.
Sunday proved
to be much better weather-wise although all contests
that were scheduled for Field Two were cancelled.
Against
Indiana, junior pitcher Darcy Wood threw a perfect
game to win 4-0. Wood continually handcuffed the
Hoosiers during the entire game.
The Sycamores
defeated IUPUI by a 7-1 count later in the day as
freshman Lindsey Horta gave up four hits in the
victory.
Katie Armour
went 2-for-3 with a double against Indiana and
3-for-4 against IUPUI with a double and a RBI.
Meredith Simpson was 2-for-3 against IUPUI with a
double and a stolen base. Audrey Childress went
2-for-3 against IUPUI, while Christina Meyers was
2-3 versus the Jaguars with a pair of RBI.
"We were very impressed with how our newcomers
stepped in this weekend," head coach Brenda Coldren
said. "We have a lot of new faces and this gave us a
chance to look at a number of different
combinations. Everyone got a chance to play and we
were very happy with the outcomes."
Indiana State
returns to action on Saturday, September 30 when
they host Danville College in a pair of fall
exhibition contests at Price Field. First pitch is
set for Noon (EST).
