SYCAMORES COMBINE
FOR 42 RUNS IN SWEEP OF DANVILLE CC
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State softball
scored a combined 42 runs to Danville’s three in a double-header
sweep on Saturday afternoon at Price Field. The offensive production
rivaled a football score as the Sycamores picked up the 17-1 victory
in game one and the 25-2 victory in game two with each win coming
in five innings.
In game one, Indiana State blew up for eight runs in the first
inning and continued the onslaught in the fourth and fifth inning
picking up the final nine runs. Senior Natalie Kopp hit a home run
to drive in two runs after Sam Markowski hit a bases-loaded clearing
double to score the runs in the fifth. Katie Armour pitched a complete
game to pickup the win for the Sycamores.
In game two, ISU built an insurmountable lead in the first inning
by driving in 12 runs, followed by four runs in the second inning.
The Sycamore bats wouldn’t cool down with another nine-run
inning in the bottom of the fourth for the combined total of 25
for the game. Audrey Childress and Stephanie Spychaj each tallied
five RBI’s on the day to lead the Sycamores offensive charge.
Freshman Meagan McCurdy pitched five strong innings, giving up only
two runs in the win.
Indiana State will conclude its fall softball schedule when the
team travels to Bloomington, Ind. tomorrow to face IUPUI and Indiana
University. Game times are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
