SYCAMORES COMBINE FOR 42 RUNS IN SWEEP OF DANVILLE CC

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State softball scored a combined 42 runs to Danville’s three in a double-header sweep on Saturday afternoon at Price Field. The offensive production rivaled a football score as the Sycamores picked up the 17-1 victory in game one and the 25-2 victory in game two with each win coming in five innings.

In game one, Indiana State blew up for eight runs in the first inning and continued the onslaught in the fourth and fifth inning picking up the final nine runs. Senior Natalie Kopp hit a home run to drive in two runs after Sam Markowski hit a bases-loaded clearing double to score the runs in the fifth. Katie Armour pitched a complete game to pickup the win for the Sycamores.

In game two, ISU built an insurmountable lead in the first inning by driving in 12 runs, followed by four runs in the second inning. The Sycamore bats wouldn’t cool down with another nine-run inning in the bottom of the fourth for the combined total of 25 for the game. Audrey Childress and Stephanie Spychaj each tallied five RBI’s on the day to lead the Sycamores offensive charge. Freshman Meagan McCurdy pitched five strong innings, giving up only two runs in the win.

Indiana State will conclude its fall softball schedule when the team travels to Bloomington, Ind. tomorrow to face IUPUI and Indiana University. Game times are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
