INDIANA STATE SOFTBALL SWEEP PRAIRIE STATE & LAKE LAND

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State accumulated a perfect 4-0 record with split squad victories over Prairie State and Lake Land on Saturday in the Sycamore Softball Fall Classic.

Game #1
Indiana State White 11, Lake Land 5

Terre Haute, Ind. – Indiana State University scored all of its 11 runs in the second inning to pick up a victory over Lake Land College 11-5 in four innings at Price Field.

Junior Kelsey Anderson drove in a bases clearing double that went past a diving Abby McComas in right center field to open the game for the Sycamores. The second inning was also helped with three Lakers errors that kept the momentum sustained.

Junior pitcher Darcy Wood stuck out four batters while giving up one hit in her two innings of work. Wood picked up the victory for the Sycamores.

Lake Land tried to get back in the game in the bottom of the second before Wood struck out the side with the bases loaded and no outs.

Indiana State Blue 9, Prairie State College 1

Terre Haute, Ind. -- The Indiana State University Sycamore softball team scored in four of the five innings to defeat Prairie State College 8-1 in five innings at Price Field in the Sycamore Fall Classic on Saturday afternoon.

The Sycamores pounded out 14 hits and ensured the victory when six base runners crossed home plate. Indiana State scored one run in each of the first two innings before the outburst in the third inning.

Freshman Lindsey Horta picked up the victory for the Sycamores after pitching two innings and striking one batter from the center circle. Freshman Meagan McCurdy and sophomore Katie Armour came in to pitch in relief for Indiana State.

Sophomore Meredith Simpson hit a home run to straight away homer to center field to add the final run of the game for the Blue squad.

Lake Land 17, Prairie State 0

Terre Haute, Ind. -- Lake Land College scored six runs in the top of the first inning en route to a 17–0 victory over Prairie State College in five innings at Indiana State University’s Price Field Saturday afternoon.

The Lakers (1-1) bats continued to pound out hits as they scored three runs in the second, four runs in the third and five runs in fifth innings. Lake Land collected 20 hits in the ballgame and took advantage of three defensive mishaps by Prairie State.

Led by freshman Alicia Hayes’ 3-3 performance from the plate in which she drove in one run and scored once. Hayes doubled fair by a just a matter of inches down the right field line to drive in one run to spark the offensive showcase by the Lakers.

Sophomore Kristi Bradley chipped in a 2-2 out from the plate and scored one run in today’s contest.

Freshman Morgan Finn picked up the victory for Lake Land. She pitched four scoreless innings from the center circle and struck out five batters.

For Prairie State, Amber Barnes and Chrystal Vanderlaan were the only two players to reach base in the contest. Barnes and Vanderlaan both singled in the fifth and final inning.

Indiana State Blue 10, Lake Land 1

Continuing with the theme of the afternoon, Indiana State amassed a quick lead with five runs in the third inning to capture the teams’ third win of the day. Katie Armour was credited with the win, allowing one run and fanning three.

Jessica McGivney and Yvette Tovar led the Sycamore attack with two RBI’s and capitalized on strong hitting from the lead-off positions as Meredith Simpson finish 3-4 in the No. 1 hole and Jackie Chomicki batting a perfect 4-4 in the No. 2 spot.

Game #5
Indiana State White 8, Prairie State 0

The final game of the day followed the course of the rest of the games during the tournament with Indiana State building a large lead causing the game to be called in five innings. The Sycamores tallied six runs in the first two innings and added another two in the bottom of the fourth in the 8-0 victory over Prairie State.

Audrey Childress hit the second homerun of the day in ISU’s four-run second inning and led the team with four RBI’s in the game.

Julie Damico pitched three scoreless innings and Darcy Wood came in for the final two and the duo each accumulated four strikeouts.
